The Old Site

When I first created this site in either the late 90′s or early 2000′s, full Flash sites were kind’ve a rage in certain circles. I was a part of many of those Flash-geek circles, annoying Flash intros and all.

Having built several sites with included Flash assets (navigation, banner rotators, logo animations, etc), I wanted to give the full Flash treatment a go. Unfortunately, some of the links are dead now, but most of the site remains intact and considerably dated. In fact, the handful of videos on the site were done just after Flash MX came out, the first version of the program to allow native import of certain video formats and new compression types. A lot of the technology spawned afterward resulted in Flash video technology becoming ubiquitous via sites like YouTube, Google Video, Vimeo, and many more. Before MX came out, we had to emulate video, which took more time than it should have using techniques I won’t try to explain here. But that was then.

Clicking this huge screen shot will bring you to the old “splash” page, where you can choose to skip or view the intro (more to read below, link opens in a new window):

This weird little thing wound up winning a big “design site of the month”  and for some time was one of those Flash sites people used to hunt down and play with out of novelty.

The navigation and content frames can be minimized by clicking the little “-” buttons, and you can drag nav and content window anywhere, similar to the graphical user interface on your computer’s operating system. One little add on that I thought was fun is in the lower right hand of the screen… the little button that says “customize.” When you click it, it will release a series of hidden buttons, that when clicked, will change the background of the site. Clicking the “X” button will tuck the previously hidden buttons away.

I figured a lot of people visiting this site might be here to see this old relic, so here it is. I didn’t have the heart to delete it.
