I Really Want to Like It…

…Google+ is highly regarded among a lot of my fellow techies, but I’m really just not feeling it. I’m not exactly an apologist for FaceBook (nor some of the user data sharing that we hear about in the news every so often), but as bloated as it is, it has organization.

I can’t say the same for G+. It was nice at first when the community was smaller, but now people are just adding any and everyone for no reason, and reading the stream is almost impossible if you have over 30 people that you follow (or in Google’s situation, encircle).

Another oddity is the random follow factor… on FaceBook, I have nearly 900 ‘friends’ that are, for the most part, people or organizations that I have a legitimate or intimate knowledge of. In the world of skateboarding, I’m a small-scale public figure (think D-List actor status), so a lot of my little You Tube pals are on there as well as friends from Twitter. A lot of people, but it makes sense.

On G+, I have over 900 followers and I have no idea why. At the rate I’m at now, I should have over 1,000 next month and I’m still a bit befuddled. Sorry for the ramble, I love Google, but the more I use G+ the more I sense an imminent fail (like Google Buzz).

Latest Skateboarding/HD Edit

I’ve had two HDV cameras give up the ghost… a Sony HDR-HC9 and a Cannon Vixia HV30. Actually, I can still use the Sony as a deck, but the CMOS is screwed up so it gives off a ghostly double-image of everything. The HV30′s carriage hates every cassette put into it, but I’ll give it credit… it was a few years old when I bought it and I gave it some hell.

My new camera is a Cannon Vixia HF M40, flash memory based (something I’ve been weary about, but starting to find pretty handy). 16 gigs internal memory, plus I doubled that with two mini SD cards… thing can record for 4 1/2 hours. Awaiting a baby death-lens and some extended life batteries from Amazon as I write this… it’s going to look ridiculous. I’ll post photos as soon as the gear comes in.

Anyway, this is a compilation of test footage under different settings, as well as recovered footage from the dead and dying HDV cams currently holding down paper at my fort’s office.

Adrenalina Skateboard marathon and Scion had a contest recently, the only rules were to make sure the deck met the template specs, and include the logos of both companies. I didn’t win, but The design was fun to make.
